I’m Thomas Hulsmans, a founder, staff software engineer and fractional CTO. I bring 8+ years of experience leading complex software projects, from architecture and hands-on implementation through to production delivery. My experience as both a technologist and a founder shapes how I approach the work: technical decisions need to account for the people using the product, the team building it and the business investing in it.
I’m at my best turning organizational goals into working software that creates value. I work at the intersection of engineering, design and business stakeholders, translating priorities into clear requirements and a delivery plan the team can execute. I take responsibility for working through ambiguity and difficult tradeoffs, keeping people aligned and carrying the work through to completion.
My work spans SaaS architecture, cloud infrastructure, integrations and sensitive data workflows, alongside more recent work in AI systems and behavioural evaluation. I stay close to the architecture and code so I can assess implementation quality directly and help resolve difficult technical problems. Throughout delivery, I keep attention on whether the product works as intended, holds up in real use and delivers the business outcome it was built for.

The challenge: Make cultural collections searchable and useful while preserving data quality across sources.
The work: The project involved architecture and delivery, including search, metadata normalization and curator tools.
The result: A working V1 prototype followed by V2, with approximately 400 feature requirements delivered over four months.
